Professsional Assignments
FOUNDER Kidney Transplant Surgeon: founder of Kidney Transplant program of the MALWA region (consisting of Punjab, and bordering districts of Haryana & Rajasthan) and performed the first Live Related Kidney Transplant at AIIMS Bathinda on 6th March 2025. This program has benefitted not only Punjab state but also the surrounding states of Haryana and Rajasthan, and is the most economical renal transplant program in the country. Now, a poor patient can also get a transplant done and live a healthy life.
FOUNDER HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT of Urology & Renal Transplantation in AIIMS Bathinda, Punjab. The OPD was started in Dec 2019, and despite bearing the brunt of the COVID-19 Pandemic for nearly two years, the M. Ch. program began in mid-2023. Currently, we are doing all kinds of Urological surgeries, ranging from advanced endourology, female urology, and reconstructive urology, advanced laparoscopy, and Renal Transplant. Notable future endeavours in the pipeline are the Cadaver Renal transplant program & Robotics.
PIONEERED of the HEALTH-RELATED SKILL DEVELOPMENT initiatives in the Malwa region and represented AIIMS Bathinda in the NATIONAL SKILL SUMMIT jointly organised by National Skill Development Corporation, AIIMS Bathinda & Baba Farid University of Health Sciences under the aegis of NITI AAYOG with Prof. VK Paul (Member NITI Aayog on Health & Education) as the Chief Guest. This event brought together more than FIFTY Vice Chancellors of state & Private health Universities as well as the Executive Directors/Presidents of all AIIMS. The Theme of this high-end event was to deliberate on transforming the Future of Healthcare Education & Workforce.
Elected as the Youngest COUNCIL MEMBER of the Urological Society of India (North Zone Chapter) and has been contributing to the national body in policy-making decisions related to the field of Urology.
Organized the prestigious Urological Society of India (North Zone Chapter) Mid-term Live Operative Workshop in AIIMS Bathinda on 19th-20th April 2025. The theme of the workshop was STONE 360, during which 19 patients underwent various urological surgeries over 2 days, performed by the best national & international faculty in the field. The quality of this workshop can be gauged from the fact that the Hon’ble Governor of Punjab did its inauguration. This workshop has brought national & international recognition to AIIMS Bathinda.
Dr Kawaljit Singh Kaura was part of a high-level delegation consisting of the officials of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Govt. of India, the Vice Chancellor of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, and Indian Nursing Council officials to London to participate in India-UK Care Sector Roundtable Discussion to celebrate the recent India-UK Care Sector Partnership, and to solve the pressing workforce challenges in the UK Care Sector. This paved the way for starting the Unique Care Worker/ Midwifery Diploma for 12th-pass candidates for their placements in the UK.
Nodal officer: National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) International Skill Centre at AIIMS Bathinda: This center is the second in the country established to skill the health-related workforce at par with international curriculum and standards and place them abroad as a part of country-to-country demand received by NSDC. This not only paves the way for legal and legitimate migration but also saves them a lot of money as all the courses are free of cost and fully funded by NSDC. Currently, the programs for Nurses and technicians are running.
Dr. Kawaljit Singh Kaura was part of a high-level delegation consisting of the officials of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Govt. of India, and Dean, Indian School of Business (ISB) Mohali, to Australia for the India-Australia Care Sector Roundtable Discussion at Adelaide & Melbourne for paving the way to legible and skilled migration route of health care migration.
He was instrumental in starting a unique initiative in India and the world, the short-term skill enhancement project related to the training of Staff Nurses in ventilator functioning (named RESPIRATORY THERAPIST) in the Covid-19 times to utilize their services at the hospital with plenty of ventilator machines but no trained manpower to operate them. Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Govt. of India, has sanctioned a fund of Rs 2 Crore for this project through the Punjab Skill Development Mission. These healthcare workers upgraded their skills and worked later as skilled ICU technicians.
Member of Expert Committee on “Professional Responsibilities of Medical Teachers” by the Ethics and Medical Review Board (EMRB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC): I was instrumental in framing the guidelines on the responsible behaviour of medical teachers towards their students.
Served as a Member of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Institute Ethics Committee (IEC) at the Central University of Punjab. Contributed to ensuring academic quality standards, ethical compliance, and institutional best practices. Participated in review, evaluation, and policy-related processes to uphold integrity in teaching and research.
Served as a Member of the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot, Punjab. Contributed to academic planning, curriculum development, and maintenance of educational standards across medical programs. Actively participated in university-level academic and professional activities.
